Reminder: ACLA Seminar Proposals

Dear Friend of the ACLA,

I’m writing to remind you that August 31 is the final day for submitting proposals for seminars at our upcoming conference at Universiteit Utrecht in Utrecht, the Netherlands, July 6-9, 2017. The portal for submissions can be found at, and will be open until midnight Pacific Standard Time on August 31st. We have had many excellent proposal submitted already, but there’s still time for you to submit your own proposal.

Once all seminars proposals have been submitted, paper submissions will open onSept. 1 and will run through Sept. 23. All seminars will have open calls for papers at this stage, and each member or prospective member may submit one paper proposal to the single seminar of their choice during these three weeks. We are encouraging ACLA members who want to propose a paper to contact the seminar organizer(s) by email with inquiries about the appropriateness of their proposal for the seminar before formally submitting their abstract through the ACLA site. Because members may only propose one paper for consideration, we ask you to be responsive to any inquiries you receive so that people who might otherwise propose a paper you are likely to reject will have the opportunity to find another seminar. Thank you for your assistance with this. Bear in mind as you do so that no seminar may have more than two participants from the same institution and no more than 50% graduate students. Ideally, all seminars should aim at a balance of scholars from different stages of the profession.  An FAQ with helpful information about seminar organization can be found on the ACLA website at

Posting a call for papers here does NOT guarantee the acceptance of your seminar.The ACLA Program Committee will review all seminar proposals during October/November and notify seminar organizers of acceptance or rejection shortly afterNovember 30, 2016.

A reminder that you do not have to be a member of the ACLA to propose a seminar, or to submit a paper proposal to a seminar. You do, however, need to be a member and to register for the conference if you wish to present a paper, or moderate a seminar, at the conference itself.

Also please note that ALL papers MUST be submitted via the ACLA website.  Direct submissions to your own email address will not be considered.  Should you receive any direct submissions, please encourage these persons to visit our website and submit the paper abstract to the ACLA.  If the papers are not in our system by the submissions deadline (Sept. 23rd), they will NOT be considered for acceptance to the Annual Meeting.  ALSO NOTE:  This includes a paper that YOU (as organizer) wish to present.  Your own paper MUST be included in the ACLA database.  If you neglect to submit a paper abstract before the deadline (Sept. 23rd), your paper will not be considered by the ACLA selection committee, and cannot be added later.
