Job Opening in the American Studies Department of Fachbereich 06 – The School of Translation Studies, Linguistics, and Cultural Studies – of the Johannes Gutenberg University of Mainz in Germersheim beginning on 1 October 2016
Full-Time Position as Lecturer for the area of foreign-language competence, translational competence as well as cultural-studies competence in the field of English.

Scope of Assignments:
The holder of the position assumes instructional and examinational assignments in the framework of the curricula offered in the Fachbereich, in particular in the focal area of special-field translation in the special field of law in the translation direction German to English. Collaboration in the academic self-administration of the field of English and in the special field work group “special-field translation” is expected. The teaching load consists of sixteen hours of instruction per week.
Hiring Prerequisites:
- Full-time professional activity of at least two years and six months after successful completion of a university course of study (German University Law §56[2][3])

Completion of an appropriate university course of study

Excellent knowledge of North American English in speech and writing (at the level of a native speaker)

Very good knowledge of the German language

Excellent knowledge of the special field of law

Excellent knowledge of the North American cultural areas

Experience in the teaching of foreign-language competence

Translation-oriented pedagogical aptitude

Practical experience in the translation of German into English is desirable
