Abstract

This article critiques three productions of Henrik Ibsen’s "A Doll’s House" created within Islamic cultures, or for Muslim audiences, between 1994 and 2006: Iranian filmmaker Dariush Mehrjui's 1993 film "Sara"; Dutch director Gerrit Timmers' 2002 production in Rotterdam with a Moroccan/Dutch cast; and Egyptian director Gamal Yakout's 2006 production in Alexandria of an Arabic translation of the play.
